FAQs

What is lateral surface area?

It’s the area of the sides only, without top/bottom. For cylinders it’s 2πrh, for cones it’s πrℓ, for prisms it’s perimeter × height.

Why do I need base area?

Base area is useful to check bearing pressure, to compare with floor area, or to feed into other compound volume calculations.

Why is the torus here?

It’s less common in school, but it’s handy in 3D modeling and some engineering contexts. Volume = 2π²Rr², surface area = 4π²Rr.
