ft/s to mph formula
The two unit definitions we need:
1 mile = 5280 feet1 hour = 3600 seconds1 mph = 5280 / 3600 ft/s = 1.466666... ft/s
So the inverse:
mph = ft/s ÷ 1.46667or
mph = ft/s × 0.681818
Example: 88 ft/s ÷ 1.46667 ≈ 60 mph (classic highway comparison).

FAQ
Why does my sensor output ft/s?
Many US-based measurement systems, especially older or industrial ones, work in imperial units by default. Converting to mph makes it easy to explain to drivers or non-technical staff.
How precise is 0.681818?
It’s the reciprocal of 1.466666..., so the 18 repeats. Rounding to 0.6818 or 0.682 is fine for most purposes.
