Body Shape Calculator (Female)
Professional female body shape calculator. Enter bust, waist, hips, high-hip, and shoulders to classify your body shape (hourglass, pear/triangle, rectangle, inverted triangle, spoon, round). Mobile-first, WCAG-compliant, and based on peer-reviewed methodology.
Choose your measurement system
Measure at the fullest part of the bust, tape parallel to the floor without compressing tissue.
Measure at the natural waist (narrowest point above the navel) relaxed, after exhaling normally.
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
Measure around the upper hip bones (approx. 7–10 cm / 3–4 in below the waist) to refine spoon/pear distinctions.
Measure around the widest part of the shoulders, passing around the front and back of the deltoids.
Optional inputs
High-hip and shoulders refine the difference between spoon/pear and inverted triangle categories. Leave them blank when you only have bust/waist/hips.
Enter your measurements to see how your proportions align with each category.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter your bust, waist, and hip circumferences. Hips should be measured at the fullest point of the seat, waist at the natural indentation, and bust at its most prominent location. High-hip and shoulders are optional but help distinguish similar categories.
Measurement guidelines
- Use a flexible tape measure and stand straight without sucking in the stomach.
- Record each value to the nearest millimeter/decimal to keep precision consistent.
- For imperial units, convert your tape readings into the calculator using the toggle above.
Methodology
The calculator derives ratios inspired by the Female Figure Identification Technique (FFIT). Ratios are dimensionless and compare each measurement against the hips so you can see how bust, waist, shoulders, and optional high-hip values align with apparel research.
Pay attention to the waist-to-mean(B,H) ratio and the difference between bust and hips: together they indicate whether the shape is balanced, top-heavy, pear-shaped, or somewhere in between.
Step-by-step example
- Inputs: Metric units, Bust 94 cm, Waist 70 cm, Hips 96 cm, High-hip 90 cm, Shoulders 104 cm.
- Ratios: WHR = 70/96 = 0.729; B/H = 94/96 = 0.979; W to Mean(B,H) = 70/((94+96)/2) = 0.737; S/H = 104/96 = 1.083.
- Neither shoulders nor high-hip destabilize the basic hourglass rule, so the shape resolves to Hourglass.

Frequently asked questions
Is this calculator accurate?
It uses peer-reviewed apparel research thresholds and puts every assumption on display so you can understand how the result was derived.
Do I need professional tools?
No. A flexible tape measure and a helper for harder-to-reach spots keep the process accessible.
What if my values sit on a boundary?
The tool reports the closest category. Small differences can move you between shapes, especially if ratios are near the thresholds.
Why do different sites give different results?
Thresholds vary. We disclose our formula set and reference the original FFIT research so you can compare apples to apples.
Is body shape a health indicator?
No. Shape is about proportion; for health guidance consult a medical professional. The WHR context above is purely informational.
Can I improve precision?
Enter shoulders and high-hip if you have them, keep the tape level, exhale normally, and repeat each measure twice for consistency.
