Cross Stitch Calculator - Calculate Fabric Size & Margin
Calculate the exact fabric dimensions needed for your cross stitch project. Enter stitch count, fabric count, and margin to get results in inches and centimeters.
Project details
Add framing margin per side. Select inches or centimeters.
Set the fabric count that matches your cloth (e.g., 14-count Aida). The calculator divides the stitch totals by the fabric count, then adds the margins to show the cutting dimensions.
—
—
The design size is stitches ÷ fabric count. Margins double (left & right or top & bottom) and convert to centimeters for secondary output.
How to Use This Calculator
Start with your design stitch width and height, then plug in the fabric count (stitches per inch). Enter the margin you want around the design to allow for framing or mounting.
- Define the pattern size in stitches so the calculator can derive the real-world inches.
- Set the fabric count to the cloth you plan to stitch on (14, 16, 18 count, etc.).
- Choose a margin for each side in inches or centimeters to keep room for finishing.
- Click Calculate or wait for the live update to show the design and fabric dimensions.
Methodology
The tool divides stitches by the fabric count to find the design width and height in inches, converts those numbers to centimeters, and then adds twice the selected margin. Every result rounds to two decimal places so you can match printed rulers or rulers in design software.
These figures are estimates. Always cross-check with your pattern and fabric supplier before cutting precious fabrics.
