Canada Taxes

Canadian federal and provincial tax tools, payroll, CPP/EI, GST/HST—plus quick links by province/territory.

Tax burden estimator

Enter taxable income, apply rates and contributions, and compare the mix of federal, provincial, CPP, and EI costs.

Adjust rates and contributions to mirror your actual payroll and provincial brackets.

How to use this Canada tax primer

Estimate your federal and provincial tax liability by entering the rates that apply to your filing status and province or territory. Add credits, CPP, and EI contributions to arrive at a net income figure. Clicking Calculate updates all values immediately, while the schedule shows how the burden spreads over the year.

Methodology

The engine subtracts declared credits from taxable income before applying each rate, then adds CPP and EI contributions to the total tax burden. Net income equals gross income minus the computed total tax. The schedule assumes payments are evenly distributed across 12 months.

Keep in mind that employer contributions, surtaxes, and other credits are not included. Use the quick links below to jump to official calculators for deeper provincial coverage.

Formulas

Total tax burden = (taxable income after credits × (federal rate + provincial rate) / 100) + CPP + EI.

Net income = gross income − total tax burden.

Effective rate = (total tax burden / max(gross income, 1)) × 100.
