How to use the Board Game Score Tracker

This tool is designed to replace paper score pads and generic score apps. It works for almost any board game, card game, or tabletop session that uses numeric scoring.

1. Choose your scoring mode

  • Rounds mode – each column is a round, turn, or hand (great for games like Yahtzee, Qwixx, trick‑taking games, or multi‑round point totals).
  • Categories mode – each column is a scoring category (ideal for games like Catan, Wingspan, Terraforming Mars, or roll‑and‑writes with multiple scoring sections).

2. Add players and columns

  1. Click + Add player to add each player. Rename them by typing directly in the name field.
  2. Use + Add and − Remove last to adjust the number of rounds or categories.
  3. Double‑click a column header to rename it (e.g., “Round 1”, “Resources”, “Bonus VP”).

3. Enter scores and see rankings update live

Type scores into the cells. The calculator automatically:

  • Calculates each player’s total score.
  • Sorts players by total and shows their rank.
  • Optionally highlights the current leader so you can see who’s ahead at a glance.

Negative scores are supported, so you can track penalties, debts, or lost points.

4. Copy or save your results

When the game ends, click Copy summary to copy a plain‑text recap of the game:

  • Game name (if you entered one).
  • Players, totals, and ranks.
  • Per‑round or per‑category breakdown.

Paste this into a BoardGameGeek session log, a spreadsheet, a group chat, or your own gaming journal.

Behind the scenes: how scores and ranks are calculated

For each player, the total score is the sum of all numeric entries across the row:

Total score for player i:

\[ \text{Total}_i = \sum_{j=1}^{N} s_{ij} \]

where \(s_{ij}\) is the score for player i in round or category j, and \(N\) is the number of columns.

Players are then ranked by total score (highest first). If two or more players have the same total, they share the same rank and are shown as a tie. You can then apply your game’s specific tie‑break rules (for example, most coins, most remaining resources, or fewest turns).

Tips for using this at the table

  • Use landscape mode on phones or tablets for more visible columns.
  • Designate a scorekeeper so one person manages the device while others call out scores.
  • Rename columns to match the exact wording in your game’s score pad to avoid confusion.
  • Copy the summary right after the game so you don’t lose your results.

Privacy and data

All calculations run in your browser. We don’t store your players, scores, or game names on our servers. If you refresh or close the page, your current table will be cleared, so be sure to copy the summary if you want to keep a record.
