Data Source and Methodology
This calculator uses standard material densities provided by building industry sources and geological surveys. Default densities are based on typical, average values for common sand types used in construction and landscaping estimations.
AuthoritativeDataSource: Calculations are based on standard geometric formulas and material densities derived from industry standards like the "Standard Specification for Concrete Aggregates" (ASTM C33 / C33M) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data on mineral densities. All calculations are performed based on these established formulas.
The Formula Explained
The calculator first determines the base volume of the area, applies a wastage factor, and then uses the selected sand density to find the total weight.
1. Base Volume (V)
The formula depends on the selected shape:
- Rectangular Area:
$V = L \times W \times D$
- Circular Area:
$V = \pi \times (\frac{d}{2})^2 \times D$
2. Total Volume (with Wastage)
The wastage factor accounts for compaction and spillage:
Formula (LaTeX) + variables + units
$V = L \times W \times D$
$V = \pi \times (\frac{d}{2})^2 \times D$
- No variables provided in audit spec.
