How this women’s shoe size converter works
Shoe sizing is not perfectly standardized, but most brands follow similar length ranges for each labeled size. This converter uses a reference table that maps women’s sizes in US, UK, EU, AU/NZ and Japan to an underlying foot length in centimeters. When you enter a size or a foot length:
- We convert your input to an internal foot length (cm).
- We find the closest matching size in the target system.
- We also show that foot length so you can compare with brand charts.
Typical relationships between size systems
- US vs UK: Women’s UK size is usually about 2 sizes smaller than US (US 8 ≈ UK 6).
- US vs EU: Each EU size step is about 0.67 cm. US 7 ≈ EU 37–38, US 8 ≈ EU 38–39.
- US vs AU/NZ: Women’s AU/NZ is often close to UK sizing (US 8 ≈ AU 6–6.5).
- JP: Japanese women’s sizes are usually the foot length in cm (e.g. 24.5).
How to measure your foot for the best fit
- Place a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall.
- Stand with your heel gently touching the wall, weight evenly distributed.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper.
- Measure the distance from the wall to the mark in centimeters.
- Repeat for the other foot and use the longer measurement.
For everyday shoes, add about 0.5 cm of extra room. For running or walking shoes, many experts recommend 0.5–1.0 cm of extra space in front of the toes.
Width and fit: more than just the number
Most charts only show length, but width matters just as much. Common width codes for women’s shoes include:
- 4A (AAAA), 3A (AAA), 2A (AA): very narrow to narrow
- B: standard/medium width for women
- D: wide
- 2E (EE): extra wide
If you often feel pressure on the sides of your feet, you may need a wider width rather than a longer size. When buying online, look for width options and check reviews mentioning “runs narrow” or “runs wide”.
Limitations and brand differences
Even with precise conversions, no chart can guarantee a perfect fit because:
- Each brand uses its own last (foot mold) and fit philosophy.
- Heels, sneakers, boots and sandals all fit differently.
- Some brands intentionally run half a size small or large.
Use this converter as a starting point, then:
- Compare the foot length (cm) to the brand’s official chart.
- Read customer reviews for notes on sizing.
- Consider ordering two nearby sizes if returns are easy.
Women’s shoe size FAQ
Is women’s US size the same as men’s?
No. In the US system, women’s sizes are typically about 1.5 sizes larger than men’s for the same foot length. For example, women’s US 8 ≈ men’s US 6.5. Width codes also differ between men’s and women’s lines.
Can I use this chart for kids’ or men’s shoes?
This tool is optimized for women’s adult sizes. Kids’ and men’s sizing follow different scales. For accurate results, use a dedicated kids’ or men’s shoe size converter.
What if I’m between two sizes?
If you are between sizes based on your foot length:
- Choose the larger size for sports, walking or if you have wider feet.
- You may choose the smaller size for heels or dress shoes if you prefer a snug fit.
